Each year, the Ocean Conservancy sponsors the International Coastal Cleanup, which takes place in more than 104 countries around the world. Once again, Broward County is participating in this international effort and Fort Lauderdale residents are invited to volunteer to clean up the City’s award-winning beach and coastline.

According to the Ocean Conservancy, trash and other marine debris injures, sickens, or kills marine mammals and can pose safety and health risks to humans. In addition, coastal trash is not only an eye sore, it can impact the economic vitality of businesses, homes, and other marine-related industries that rely on clean, healthy beaches and waterways.

The local cleanup effort is this Saturday at Earl Lifshey Park. More details are available here. http://www.signuptocleanup.org/index.php?section=cleanup&action=main&fwID=15956
